This race had been anticipated as among the more competitive runnings of this unique 7-furlong contest for female horses. Yet, veterinary inspections led to multiple withdrawals earlier today, including leading runners Sweet Azteca and Tamara.

As a result, the lineup looks much smaller, but trainer Bob Baffert has a major opportunity to secure a twentieth Breeders’ Cup victory. His runners include Richi along with Splendora, while Hope Road, winner of the G1 Ballerina Stakes, is viewed as the main challenger.
