One police sergeant who jumped to the aid of a fellow officer that got attacked by a blade-wielder was granted the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a blade to the throat of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver subsequent to a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in July 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.

"Policeman attacked," the constable was heard to say over his radio.

Bodyworn and dashboard camera video shared by the police department depicted Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood up, approach to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a weapon extended.

He collided with the officer who stumbled and fell to the street, before Sgt Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the ground although being continually attacked with the weapon.

Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a open target, ending the struggle to an finish.

Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "Can I get help on my neck here, I've been stabbed in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell received two deep cuts to his throat and further wounds to his limbs and body, whereas Sgt Foster experienced knife wounds.

Officials stated Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his fellow officer's blood loss prior to emergency responders arrived.

The new recognition comes after the trio of policemen received internal Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional officer association in early 2024.

They further earned a North West Courage Honor in mid-2024.

"The actions of the entire team in the end saved one another and ensured no bystanders endured any injuries."

Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, per authorities.
