Sonic's Racer Takes Aim at Mario Kart World in Latest Marketing Campaign
We're in 2025, and the promotional efforts for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds aim to evoke the classic Sega vs. Nintendo battle. An recent commercial for the Sega's kart racer reportedly uses low-quality video of Mario Kart World, leveraging it to claim that the rival title underuses its expansive design.
Questioning the Other Game
"Everyone's familiar with that popular racer, it's enjoyable, it's unnecessary to show it to you," the commercial opens. "Consider you could blast through and compete on a different plane?" The clip then proceeds to showcase key of Sonic Racing's standout features, including extensive vehicle customization and multi-system play.
"Alternatively, perhaps you want to drive around on the expansive world?" the voiceover asks, filled with skepticism.
Previous Events of Competition
This may not be the opening salvo that the team behind Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds have targeted the competing series, it is certainly the bluntest they have spoken regarding the competition between titles. The advertisement also echoes a old-school commercial for the 16-bit system that informed fans about the console's "high-speed" technology. Previously, Sega highlighted its hardware advantage by featuring a race car racing on a course. Toward the end, it juxtaposed the Super Nintendo to an old RV that had Nintendo's classic playing on a old TV fastened to the rear of the car using a cord.
Availability
The game launches next week on the 25th of September for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. But, players who pre-order can jump in ahead of launch... except if they're on Nintendo Switch. Welp.
